Santa Barbara, CA — August 2025 — The Pad Climbing, a nationally recognized climbing gym brand founded on California’s Central Coast, is thrilled to announce the impending September opening of its newest location in Santa Barbara. This milestone marks the company’s continued expansion as a community-first, values-driven leader in the climbing industry.
Born in a San Luis Obispo garage in 2002, The Pad has grown into a multi-location movement with facilities in San Luis Obispo, Las Vegas, Binghamton (NY), and now Santa Barbara. The company’s growth model prioritizes employee ownership, inclusive practices, and local engagement—earning national recognition as one of America’s Top Small Businesses by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and a Best Place to Work by Pacific Coast Business Times.
“This gym is a love letter to Santa Barbara,” said Kristin Horowitz, CEO of The Pad Climbing. “After years of working to bring this to life, we’ve created a space that reflects the adventurous spirit and vibrant community of the Central Coast.”
Located in the Magnolia Shopping Center, the new gym offers over 14,000 square feet of bouldering and rope climbing terrain, a kids’ climbing area, yoga/multipurpose studio, coworking lounge, showers, and all-gender restrooms. Members get 24/7 access, free rental gear, and included beginner classes—making it easy for new climbers to jump in.
The Pad also continues its commitment to equity and accessibility with:
- Discounted memberships for students, families, and healthcare workers
- Youth and adaptive programs
- Scholarships and outreach through its Climb4Community fund
The opening adds 30+ jobs to the Santa Barbara economy and brings fresh energy to the local fitness and recreation scene. With roots firmly planted in California’s coast, The Pad is poised to keep growing—without compromising its mission to make climbing and connection accessible to all.
